Jacqueline M. Sysyn Obituary - 2021 (2024)


Jacqueline M. Sysyn, 75, of Kittanning, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 with her husband holding her hand at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot. Jackie's passing was the result of an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer and complications from a 50-year struggle with type 1 diabetes. Jackie was born October 9, 1946 in Homestead, PA to the late Dr. John A. Sabol and Dorothy (Pesta) Sabol. She was a 1964 graduate of Munhall High School, and a 1968 graduate of Clarion State College. At Clarion, Jackie met David Sysyn, who she would marry on February 24,1968 and share 54 "mostly wonderful" years. In 1975, after the couple's two children were of school age, Jackie began a 30-year career as an elementary teacher at West Hills Elementary in Kittanning. Jackie was of the Byzantine Catholic faith and attended St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe, Kittanning. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia No. 998. Jackie enjoyed beach vacations, traveling to new places, good food, and good books. Her greatest love was spending quality time with friends and family.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Alex and Helena Sysyn, brother-in-law Charles Delach, and sister-in-law Sue Sabol. In addition to her husband David, she is survived by her son Dr. Gregory (Harriet) Sysyn of Atlanta, daughter Jodi (Joe) Luketic of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; grandchildren Alex (Alix) Myers of Ohio, Chloe (Alex) Jashinski of Georgia, Sage (Tendai) Mwenda of Natrona Heights, Maisy (Kevin) Kelley of Tennessee, Eli Sysyn of Alabama, and Ben Luketic of Kentucky; great-grandchildren Theo Mwenda and Oliver Kelley; brother Jack Sabol and sister-in-law Colleen Delach.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, Pa. Additional visitation will be held in the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of parting prayers at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Kittanning with Father Eric Dinga officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Kittanning.
