The Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre is designed for talented performers eager to refine their skills in singing, acting, and dancing. Admission is competitive and requires an audition. We welcome freshmen and transfer students for both fall and spring semesters.
Our experienced faculty, comprised of seasoned performers and directors, guides students through an interdisciplinary program that includes courses in Music Theory, Aural Skills, Piano, History of Musical Theatre, Musical Theatre Directing, Stage Make-up, Stagecraft, Production/Performance, Major Ensemble, and Applied Voice.
Our tradition of excellence in musical theatre productions includes a wide range of performances from contemporary to classic. Each year, students have the opportunity to perform in two full-scale musicals, with past productions including High Society, Steel Pier, Promises, Promises, The Wild Party, Jane Eyre, and many more. Additionally, students can participate in professional musical revues as part of UCO’s popular Jazz Lab Production Series.

Our current music majors, along with our esteemed faculty and alumni, have graced the stage with renowned artist groups such as Opera on Tap, Painted Sky Opera, Pollard Theatre, Lyric Theatre, El Sistema, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
We welcome Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate as an artist-in-residence, directing the UCO Symphony Orchestra. Mickelthwate serves as both a guiding force within our School and as the director of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.

Musical Theatre Success
The Musical Theatre program at UCO has earned its place in the U.S.'s Top Ten musical theatre programs (Onstage Blog).
Our Musical Theatre alumni have left an indelible mark on Broadway. Caleb Barnett enchanted audiences as part of the cast of "Aladdin," while Erin Clemons took center stage in the iconic "Hamilton" on Broadway and its North American tour. Jay Krottinger, a Grammy-winning producer, achieved acclaim for musicals such as "Come From Away," "Pippin," "Waitress," and most recently,"The Outsiders."

B.M. in Musical Theatre Curriculum
Complete 125 credit hours, including Major Requirements, Electives and theUniversity Core.
All bachelor’s in musical theatre students take a minimum of 125 credit hours, which will exceed the 124 credit hour UCO institutional requirement and will vary according to course selection. It is recommended students complete two years of a second language in high school. Class instruction benefits from our close relationships with departments across the College of Fine Arts and Design. As a Musical Theatre major, some courses you'll take include:
