As a good-enough parent, you are empathetic and responsive to your child's needs. You can support them if they feel sad or angry and don't feel you need to stop them from experiencing these emotions.

Kids' happiness and satisfaction reign supreme

Since mental health presented such a significant concern among parents, it's perhaps unsurprising that a vast majority of parents (88%) say their children's financial stability and job satisfaction as adults are very or extremely important to them, the survey found.

Parents have been found to greatly impact the career selection process of their children. Many parents are unaware of all the ways they can influence their children's career decision. Work ethic, family values and gender stereotyping in the family may have greater impact than previously thought.

Remember, you're there to guide and influence your child, teach and coach them, encourage and love them, and then set limits and give consequences when they make inappropriate choices.

A parent who is warm, responsive and occasionally makes mistakes. Because being let down is part of daily life and it builds resilience. Something kids need to be able to adapt to change as they grow. It's important for our children to see us not as perfect but as people who sometimes don't get it right.

To that end, good parenting approaches kids with love, warmth and acceptance. Healthy parenting means nurturing the whole child, attending to physical, mental, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. A definition of good parenting acknowledges that parenting is both an art and a skill.

A good enough mother responds to her young kids quickly and emphatically because she knows they need to be protected and soothed. But as her kids grow, she recognizes she can't sustain that level of attentiveness—and doesn't need to. Instead, she'll allow them to be uncomfortable, disappointed, frustrated, or sad.
